The Importance of a Positive Influence Village for Children

What comes to mind when you hear someone say “it takes a village”?

Do you agree, disagree, or are you undecided?

I believe it’s true, but it also matters who your village is.

Having the right influences in your life is crucial.

You are the sum total of the five people closest to you, for better or worse

These people not only influence your life but also the lives of your children. Your children need influences outside of you and your spouse that reflect the same values you are instilling at home.

Furthermore, it’s important that those who interact with your children share your beliefs and convictions. Children need stability and consistency for healthy mental and spiritual growth.

One key point is that quality is more important than quantity.

Consider the five closest people in your life and your child’s life.

Are they positively influencing your children in their walk with the Lord? Do they help your child think through issues and consider different perspectives? Are they actively involved in your child’s life and genuinely interested in their growth?

What does your community look like?

Do your close friends align with how you want to raise your children?

If you feel you lack a supportive community or need to strengthen your current one, consider reaching out to your church or seeking out a mentor. If you’re new to the church or to Christianity, your pastor can be a valuable resource for connecting with mentors who offer biblical guidance or simply a supportive ear.

As your children grow and face new challenges, your support network may need to evolve as well. Have you assessed whether your current circle of influence aligns with the values and guidance you want for your children?
